
Swarm to Host Rochester Knighthawks on Friday

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm will host the Rochester Knighthawks in its second game of the season on Friday, Jan. 19 at 7:00 PM at Xcel Energy Center. Minnesota lost its season opener at home to the Chicago Shamrox, 11-10, last Saturday while Rochester is 2-1 on the season, beating Toronto 10-6 last Saturday and averaging 13 goals per game.
Scott Stewart leads the Swarm in scoring this season with four points (1-3=4) followed by Spencer Martin, Chad Culp, and last years team leader Ryan Ward, each with three points (1-2=3). Brock Boyle, the only player to score multiple goals in the season opener, leads the team with two. Ryan Cousins snagged a team leading nine loose balls in the contest; he was third in that category last season. Nick Patterson started in goal for the Swarm against Chicago and made 43 saves and allowing 11 goals for a .796 save percentage in the loss.
Rochester has been in the league for 11 years, making the playoffs every season making for an annually tough opponent. Minnesota will play the Knighthawks a total of two times this season, the same with every team in the Eastern Division, once at home and once on the road. Rochester leads the all-time series 4-2 and is 2-1 in three matches played at Xcel Energy Center. Shawn Williams leads the Knighthawks in scoring with 15 points (7-8=15), Steve Toll leads with 25 loose balls and goaltender Pat O'Toole is 2-0 with a 10.17 goals against average (GAA) and a .812 save percentage. O'Toole earned Week Three Overall Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in the Knighthawks 10-6 win over the Rock as he turned away 51 shots
Fans attending the pre-game party at the Xcel Energy Center's Iron Range Bar & Grill may enter the Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament presented by Bud Light and have a chance at winning a trip to Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Fans 21 and older are eligible for the pre-game contest beginning at 6:00 PM and four finalists will be determined for the opportunity to battle on the turf at halftime. The champion wins a Swarm prize pack and is qualified for the Bud Light Twin Cities Rock, Paper Scissors Finals in April to compete for a chance at the Vegas vacation and contend for the USA championship and $50,000. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will also receive a Swarm player card magnet.
