Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs won an exciting contest Saturday night against the Holly Springs Salamanders, 6-5 in 10 innings at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

The Salamanders got off the bat strong, scoring the first four runs of the game, but the SwampDogs chipped away at the lead to eventually tie up the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With the game tied at 4-4 in the top of the 10th inning and Kodi Whitley (Soph./Mount Olive) on the mound, the Salamanders would score the go-ahead run on a throwing error by Mitch Roman (Jr./Wright State).

Roman would get immediate redemption, however, by drawing a leadoff walk in the bottom half of the inning. Chris Lowe (Fr./Indiana), who had three dazzling catches defensively sacrificed Roman to second base, then pinch-hitter Alex Liquori (Jr./Kennesaw State) drew a walk to put runners on first and second.

Ki-Jana Madden (Fr./Spartanburg Methodist) would get hit by a pitch on the back to load the bases, then Sky Overton (Soph./Furman) served a 2-2 pitch into left centerfield to plate Roman and Zak Orrison (Jr./Mount Olive) who was pinch-running for Liquori with the tying and winning runs.

Whitley (3-0) was the winner, while Tommy DeJunaes was the loser, falling to 0-1.

The SwampDogs (7-7) are back in action Monday night as they hit the road to take on the Martinsville Mustangs at Hooker Field in Martinsville, Va. The SwampDogs return to "The Swamp" Tuesday night when they take on the Catawba Valley Stars on Fayetteville Chamber Night. Reserve your tickets now by calling 910-426-5900.
