Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- The Fayetteville SwampDogs have announced the signing of St. Bonaventure's Billy Urban for the 2011 season. The Cleveland, OH native will make his SwampDogs debut this summer.

Following his first year in the brown and white in which he was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All American, Urban hasn't let up this season as he leads the team in RBIs with 34. As a sophomore, he is third on the team in batting average hitting .314, starting all 42 games for the Bonnies this spring. Furthermore, the 6-0, 180-pound shortstop has 13 doubles on the year, which currently places him tied for 9th on the single-season program list in that category. The talented Urban can also use his skills on the mound. In seven appearances, Urban has thrown 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts.

Starting all four years in high school Urban went to bat over 400 times only striking out an amazing 4 times. That patience translated to college where as a freshman with the Bonnies he batted .337 with 44 runs batted in.

"Billy will be a valuable addition to our club this summer. He can play multiple infield spots, as well as pitch out of the pen," said SwampDogs head coach Darrell Handelsman. "He was an all-star last summer and I anticipate him being a big part of our success."

The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, entering their 11th season in the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
