Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
WILMINGTON, N.C. - Stellar pitching and timely, consistent hitting vaulted the Fayetteville SwampDogs during their 12-3 route of the Wilmington Sharks Thursday night.
The SwampDogs built a six run lead after the top of the 7th before Wilmington was able to push across a run in the bottom of the inning. The Sharks made it a three run game heading into the ninth but the 'Dogs pulled away with a six run ninth inning to boost their record to 2-1.
Nick Yobbi (USC-Aiken) was brilliant on the mound for Fayetteville, tossing seven innings without allowing an earned run. Yobbi struck out five batters and kept the Sharks off balance all night long.
The 'Dogs backed their pitcher with nineteen hits, with six of the nine starters having multi-hit games. Tyler Tharp (Virginia Military Institute) spurred the offense with a 4-5 night with three RBIs and two stolen bases. Logan Corrigan (James Madison) supported the cause going 3-5 with three RBIs.
Yobbi earned the win with the quality start. Ethan Wortkoetter is saddled with the loss as the Sharks drop to 1-2.
The SwampDogs head to Asheboro to face the Copperheads on Friday night at 7:00pm before hosting the Savannah Bananas on Saturday night for the first Fireworks Spectacular of the season presented by Mountaire Farms.
