Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
The holiday season is upon us. Fun-Go, Cookie and friends are ready to spread smiles and cheer to families and kids throughout Cumberland County.
J.P. Riddle Stadium will once again serve as an official drop off location for the Salvation Army Toy Drive this holiday season.
The SwampDogs will be accepting toys from 8:00-5:00 pm, Monday-Friday until December 14th. All toys, big and small, will be accepted with open arms and can be dropped off at the SwampDogs business office inside J.P. Riddle Stadium.
"The Salvation Army is pleased to once again have the partnership of The Fayetteville SwampDogs for our Christmas Angel Tree program. With over 5,400 children and seniors in need this year, we need the help of the entire community" said Jackie Godbold, Salvation Army Director of PR/Development.
All the toys will be taken from J.P. Riddle to the Salvation Army in Fayetteville. The toys will then be distributed to kids in Cumberland County.
To say thanks for helping, the SwampDogs will give each family that brings a toy, two general admission tickets to be used during the 2013 season. "The Salvation Army is a great organization that we are proud to be helping again this holiday season" said Director of Operations Darrell Handelsman. "After four successful years of this great event, we look forward to an even bigger and better fifth year. In these uncertain economic times, it's more important now than ever to embrace our commitment to community service and do what we can to help throughout the community. Since our motto is "Where Baseball is Fun!" we wanted to find a way to help make this a fun holiday season for every kid!"
The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, entering their 13th season in the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 55 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
