Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
EDENTON, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs (12-9) fell in Edenton to the Steamers (12-9), despite another strong offensive showing from the Dogs.
Justin Hawkins (Clemson) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the first to bring Andrew Henrickson (East Carolina) to give the SwampDogs an early 1-0 lead.
The SwampDogs would double-up their lead in the 2nd inning on a Jonathan Allen (San Francisco) single that brought home Mike Farnell (Murray State) to increase the lead over the Clams to 2-0.
The Steamers would tie up the game in the bottom of the third, before Austin Edgette would tack on his team-high 15th RBI of the season bringing home Allen, making it 3-2 Fayetteville.
The game would be busted open in a see-saw 6th inning, highlighted by Braedon Barrett's (Tulane) 2nd homerun of the year, a 3-run shot to right-center field to put the SwampDogs up by 4. The lead wouldn't last the inning as the Steamers tagged Fayetteville's Matt Acosta (0-0) (Cal State Northridge) for 5 runs in the 5th inning to take a 7-6 lead into the 6th inning.
Justin Hawkins would tie up the game in the 6th, with his second RBI of the night, on a groundout that scored Jameel Edney (Bethune Cookman) to knot things up at 7.
The Steamers Chris Williams (San Jose State), would break the deadlock with a two-run home run in the 7th off Shane Bishop (North Greenville) to put the Teal and Black on top for good 9-7.
Billy Wilson would tack on another long ball (Loyola Marymount), his 6th of the year, to seal the Steamers victory by a final score of 10-7. Shane Bishop (0-1) took the loss for the SwampDogs, while Carmen Giampetruzzi (1-0) (Boston College) earning his first victory of the season in two innings of work out of the bullpen for Edenton, while Nick Spear (Mercer) earned his 2nd save of the season.
