SwampDogs Grounded by Pilots

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs fell to the Peninsula Pilots 8-1 Wednesday at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

The Pilots got off to a lightning fast start hitting three home runs in the first inning against Josh Covey (Fr./Florence Darlington Tech) to take a quick 4-0 lead.

The SwampDogs plated a run in the bottom of the first off of Matt Outman, when Branden Boggetto (Jr./Southeast Missouri) and Jimmy Faul (Jr./Louisville) hit back-to-back doubles.

From there, Outman would settle in, tossing six-plus innings, allowing jus the one run on six hits, while his offense supplied him with insurance runs in the fourth and fifth in the form of solo home runs.

The Pilots would plate two additional runs in the eighth inning against Zak Orrison (Jr./Mount Olive) with the help of two throwing errors.

Outman got the win to improve to 3-1 on the season, while Covey got tagged with the loss, falling to 0-2.

The SwampDogs (16-28) are on the road Thursday and Friday before returning home for a two weekend games, the first on Saturday, July 25th against the High Point-Thomasville HiToms on Christmas in July.
