Indiana Fever News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever has announced that two-time WNBA All-Star Tammy Sutton-Brown has signed a multi-year contract extension. Ranked fifth in WNBA history in blocked shots (486) and 16th in rebounds (1,805), the Rutgers graduate and former member of the Canadian National Team is in her 10th WNBA season. As per team policy, terms of the contract are not disclosed.
Signed as a free agent by the Fever in March 2007, the 6-4 center spent the first six years of her career with the Charlotte Sting, advancing to the 2001 WNBA Finals as a rookie. She returned to the Finals last year in her third season with the Fever, establishing herself as one of the most seasoned and experienced veterans in the game.
Earlier this season, she became just the fifth player in league history to achieve each of the following milestones: 3,000 points, 1,500 rebounds and 400 blocks.
"I am thrilled that Tammy is staying with the Indiana Fever," said Fever General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Kelly Krauskopf. "Her experience, size and professionalism are just a few of the reasons that we have had success. She is also a terrific role model and community advocate for women. Our city and franchise are fortunate to have her representing us."
In four seasons with the Fever, Sutton-Brown has averaged 10.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots per game while helping Indiana to the WNBA Playoffs in each season. In the community, she has established a charitable foundation based in her hometown of Toronto. For the past two years in Toronto and Indianapolis, she has provided a "Day of Wellness" at local women's shelters, offering hair cuts, massages, manicures and pedicures to women in need.
Currently tied for first place in the Eastern Conference, Sutton-Brown and the Fever begin play in the conference semifinals next week.
Following its first visit to the WNBA Finals and three consecutive sellout crowds during the 2009 WNBA Playoffs, the Indiana Fever is eager to pursue a sixth straight playoffs appearance and a return trip to the Finals in 2010. The Fever closes the regular season with Fan Appreciation Night on Sunday, Aug. 22 (5:00 p.m.) against the Minnesota Lynx. Season and single-game tickets are available at FeverBasketball.com or by calling (317) 917-2500.
