Mississippi Surge News Release

Make it a perfect 5-0 for the Mississippi Surge against their in-state rival Mississippi RiverKings.

Jay Silvia scored two goals to lead the Surge to a 5-2 win Friday night in Southaven. The victory is the third straight for the Surge, which has now earned points in six of its last seven games.

Defenseman Jarkko Leppanen opened the scoring for the Surge at 3:25 of the first period. Silvia got his first of the night at 5:40. The RiverKings' Todd Hosmer put the home team on the scoresheet at 13:02 in the first period.

The Surge scored twice more in the second. Silvia's second goal of the game at 11:18 made it 3-1. Adam Stuart picked up his third assist of the night for the Surge, as he helped set up the first three goals. With a half minute left in the period, Branden Kosolofsky boosted the Surge to a 4-1 lead.

Midway through the third period, Mike MacDonald got the RiverKings back to within two goals. But the Surge's Joe Harcharik sealed the victory with an open net goal with 1:04 left to play.

The Surge moves on to face Pensacola on Saturday in the final game of a five game road trip. On Sunday, the Huntsville Havoc will visit the Surge at 3:05 p.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. That will be the first meeting between those teams since a bench fight erupted in Huntsville on December 28th.

Sunday will also be the Surge's annual Pink in the Rink game, presented by Garden Park Medical Center, Beau Rivage Resort and Casino, and WLOX-TV. Surge players will wear special pink jerseys in the game. Following the game, fans can bid on the game worn jerseys in a live auction held in the Cameillia Ballroom at Beau Rivage. A portion of the proceeds from the game and jersey auction will benefit the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.
