Mississippi Surge News Release

Mississippi Surge players, Matt Gordon and Trent Bonnett spoke to a group of about 90 students in health classes at St. Martin Middle School on Wednesday January 17th. In preparation, their teacher, Coach Tim Edwards showed the hockey film Miracle, went over the basics of the game, and talked about health and injury prevention. "This week we had been discussingthe physical aspectof health. Topics covered included Fitness, Weight Training and Sports, and Injury Prevention. We also looked at an educational Science of Hockey website. The players discussed these topics with the students, answered questions, and told us about their lives and journeys into professional sports. SMMS greatly appreciates Michael Dixon and the Surge players taking the time to have this learning experience for our PE/Health students. Geaux Surge!" says Coach Edwards.

"I was really impressed of some of the questions that were asked from the students. One that really impressed me the most was one student ask about the difference between playing on hard ice and soft ice", says Mississippi Surge Defensemen, Trent Bonnett.

"One of the kids asked me about the worse injury I have had. I told him about my thumb and being on Injured Reserved since November" said center Matt Gordon.

Surge players will also be appearing at Jefferson Davis Elementary School in Biloxi later on this month.
