Mathieu Dugas stood on his head and made 30 saves to lead Mississippi Surge to a 2-1 victory over the Louisiana IceGators.
Mississippi Surge was sparked by Kyle Kudroch, who had one goal. Kudroch scored 3:37 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi Surge. Jeff Martens assisted on the tally. Mississippi Surge put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Louisiana to score on any of its four power plays. Mississippi Surge also got a goal from Anthony Battaglia as well. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Nicholas Kuqali and Mark Thorburn, who each chipped in one.
The IceGators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Louisiana's offense operated below it season average. The IceGators put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. Louisiana's offense rang up 31 shots on Mississippi Surge's net. The IceGators were led by Jeff Grant, who scored the team's only goal. Grant scored 1:42 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Louisiana. Shawn McNeil provided the assist.
Mississippi Surge incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kiefer Smiley made 17 saves for Louisiana on 19 shots. The IceGators incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
