HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Mississippi Surge jumped out to an early lead and never let up as the defeated the Huntsville Havoc 5-1 at the Von Braun Center to extend their unbeaten streak to eleven games and strengthen their grip on first place in the SPHL.

Mississippi came out of the chute with all cylinders firing, grabbing the lead on Chris Ferazzoli's power play goal just 4:52 into the first period. Mike Richard extended the Surge lead to 2-0 when he broke down the right wing and scored on a wraparound at 7:56, and then Jack Wolgemuth blasted a one-timer from the top of the left circle past Huntsville starting goalie Dan McWhinney at 11:45. McWhinney was yanked from the game following Wolgemuth's tally and replaced with Jeremy Symington. At 17:51, Ryan Bartle's shot from the left wing beat Symington through the legs and gave the Surge a 4-0 lead that they took to the locker room after one period.

Jack Wolgemuth lengthened Mississippi's lead to 5-0 with a power play goal at 11:20 of the second period, backhanding a pass from Chris Ferazzoli past Symington.

Huntsville got on the board at the 12:17 mark when Mike Carter tapped in a centering pass from Justin Rohr, but it was too little, too late.

With the game lopsided, the third period degenerated into fisticuffs, with two small fracases preceding an all-out brawl at the 18:43 mark of the third period that saw Huntsville's Dennis Sicard jump Mississippi's Shane Wagner, Huntsville's Martin Kubaliak get into a scrap with two different Surge Players, and Justin Rohr jump Mississippi's Chris Greene.

Bill Zaniboni made 28 saves to earn the win, and the Surge were 2-for-12 on the power play.

The Surge returns home on February 26 against the Fayetteville FireAntz! The first 2,000 adults through the gate will receive umbrellas courtesy of Mississippi Blood Services and WLOX Weather!
