Surge Playoff Opponent Set
March 16, 2012 - SPHL (SPHL)
Mississippi Surge News Release
The Mississippi Surge's 2-0 loss to the Columbus Cottonmouths Friday night, combined with the Pensacola Ice Flyers setback to the Knoxville Ice Bears by the identical score, means the Surge and Ice Flyers will face each other in the quarterfinals of the Southern Professional Hockey League playoffs.
Sam Bowles and John Sullivan provided all the offense Columbus would need to prevail in the match up of the two hottest teams in the SPHL heading into Friday's game. The Surge remains one point ahead of Pensacola in the battle for fourth place, which will mean home ice advantage for the best of three opening round series.
Mississippi has three games left to play while Pensacola has four games remaining. The two teams do not face each other again in the regular season.
The Surge host the Huntsville Havoc Saturday night at 7:05 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. For the game, the Surge will be wearing special St. Patrick's jerseys which will be auctioned after the game.
