Surge Netminder Dan Clarke Named Easton Player of the Week

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 4, 2014) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced goaltender Dan Clarke of the Mississippi Surge is the Easton Player of the Week for January 27-February 2.

Clarke backstopped the Surge to a pair of wins over Fayetteville last weekend, posting a 1.50 goals against average and .939 save percentage.

The Belleville, Ontario native stopped 19 of 20 shots in a 2-1 win over the FireAntz on Friday, while making 27 saves in a 3-2 victory the following night as the Surge rallied from a 2-1 third-period deficit.

Before turning pro, Clarke played four seasons for Quinnipiac University where he posted a 32-32-5 record, a 2.62 GAA and a .902 save percentage. His 32 wins and 2.62 GAA both rank third in Quinnipiac's Division I history, while his five career shutouts also rank third all-time.

Clarke's best year came as a sophomore in 2009-10 when he was named Quinnipiac's Most Valuable player after compiling a 15-15-2 record with a .913 save percentage and a 2.52 GAA. He also broke the Quinnipiac single-game and ECAC Hockey single-game record with a 73-save performance in a 3-2, five-overtime victory against Union in the first game of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals, which stands as the longest game in NCAA men's ice hockey history.
