Trustmark Bank, Aaron's Rents, and the Mississippi Surge helped give several Gulf Coast children their first taste of playing ice hockey in the Kids First program Tuesday night at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

The kids got on the ice for the first time after learning about hockey equipment and touring the Surge lockerroom two weeks ago.

"This is great for the kids and it also helps our guys recharge," Surge coach Jeff Bes said. "It helps them have fun with the game, which is important throughout the season."

Bes joined most of the Surge roster on the ice helping the kids learn how to skate, pass and shoot. There will be several other sessions in the Kids First program, made possible through the support of Trustmark Bank, Aaron's Rents and the donation of ice time from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

"We're hoping some of these kids will continue into the youth hockey program, and we're certainly making them and their parents Surge fans," Bes said.

The Surge returns to action this Friday at the Coast Coliseum against the Huntsville Havoc at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Surge at 228-287-PUCK (7825).
