RiverHawks Re-Activate Skoggard; Trade O'Brien

December 20, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release

The Augusta RiverHawks Hockey Club announced Tuesday that they have re-activated goaltender Peter Skoggard, who began the season with the RiverHawks. To make room for Skoggard the RiverHawks have traded BJ O'Brien to the Louisiana Ice Gators in exchange for cash considerations.

"We were fortunate to have three extremely good goaltenders here in Augusta," said RiverHawks' Head Coach Brad Ralph. "BJ has done a tremendous job here. He has proven he is an elite goalie at this level and we are all sorry to see him leave. The good news is we don't play Louisiana again during the regular season. We wish him the very best and thank him for his work in Augusta."

Skoggard was with the RiverHawks coming out of their main training camp after signing with the team during the off-season. Unfortunately, part-way through the beginning of the season Skoggard had to return to Sweden due to immigration issues.

Before having to return home Skoggard quickly re-established himself as one of the premier goaltenders in the Southern Professional Hockey League. In three games with the RiverHawks this season he posted three wins along with a goals against average of 2.00 and a stellar save percentage of .932.

Dating back to the 2010-11 season Skoggard remains undefeated in the SPHL regular season. Last season he shared the netminding duties with teammate Jon Olthuis and saw action in seven games. Over that span he won six and posted a goals against average of 2.54 and a save percentage of .924.

The return of Skoggard necessitated that one of the RiverHawks' three goaltenders under contract be moved. O'Brien leaves the RiverHawks after a very strong start to his season. After seven games O'Brien has six wins compared to just one loss. He compiled an extremely strong goals against average of 2.29 and a save percentage of .920.

The RiverHawks head on the road for four straight games before returning to action on Phoenix Refrigeration Ice at the James Brown Arena Friday, December 30th as they play the Fayetteville FireAntz. The puck drops at 7:35pm. Tickets for the game are available through the RiverHawks' office and the James Brown Arena box office. Additional information on the Team, tickets, and schedule are available on the RiverHawks' home on the web, www.augustariverhawks.com or by calling 706-993-2645. Fans can catch every road game at the Official Watch Party at Somewhere in Augusta at 2820 Washington Road.
