Mississippi Surge News Release
Gator Huntin':The Mississippi Surge hosts the Louisiana IceGators tonight to conclude a seven game homestand.
Records: The Surge is 5-4-0 for 10 points in fifth place.
Louisiana is 4-5-1 for 9 points in sixth place.
Season Series:This is the second of 11 meetings between these two teams this season. The Surge will play Louisiana more than any other opponent this season. Louisiana won the first meeting of the season between the two team, 3-2 here on November 5th.
Recent Action: The Surge is coming off a 4-2 loss to Huntsville last Saturday night. Louisiana is coming off a 7-6 overtime loss at Fayetteville last Saturday night.
Adam Up: Center Adam Krug assisted on the first Surge goal last Saturday, extending his point streak to six games. That is tied for the second longest point streak in the SPHL right now. In the stretch, Krug has three goals and four assists for seven points.
Youth Is Served:Tonight's game features two of the top rookie scorers in the SPHL this season. Brayden Metz of Louisiana is third in rookie scoring with seven goals and four assists for 11 points in 10 games. The Surge's Shawn Skelly is tied for fourth among rookies with four goals and six assists for 10 points.
Sharp Shooters:The Surge has the top two players in shooting percentage in the league. Brent Clarke has scored three goals on only seven shots to lead the SPHL with a .429 shooting percentage. Defenseman Scott Jenks, who still leads all defensemen with five goals, has scored his goals on 12 shots for a .412 shooting percentage.
Road Reversal:While the Surge is playing its seventh home game in 10 games tonight, this is the ninth road game for Louisiana which has played only two home games this season.
Next Up: Tonight starts a busy stretch for the Surge, which has three games in four nights, starting tonight. It won't take long for them to see the IceGators again as the two teams will meet Friday night in Louisiana. That will be the Surge's first road game since October 22nd.
