
Surge get past Huntsville

The Mississippi Surge had a power play and shorthanded goal in the first period, en route to a 4-3 win over the Huntsville Havoc Friday night in Huntsville. The win is the fourth straight for the Surge, matching the season high.
After Glenn Detuello gave Huntsville a 1-0 lead on a power play goal at 6:36 of the first period, Jeff Grant answered it back 10 minutes later with a Surge power play goal. Greg Brown put Huntsville back on top, but with 1.8 seconds left in the period, Nick Guran, continued his recent red hot play with a shorthanded goal.
Guran also was credited with the Surge's third goal, early in the second period. The two goals give him seven goals in the last four games, with three two-goal games in that stretch. Adam Stuart boosted the Surge to a 4-2 lead midway through the second period. Ray Ortiz got Huntsville to within a goal with 13 minutes left in the third period.
The victory gives the Surge 53 points and leaves the team one point behind Pensacola for fourth palce in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The Surge has already qualified for the SPHL playoffs.
The Surge takes on the Mississippi RiverKings Saturday night in Southavean.
