Wichita Wind Surge News Release
San Antonio, TX- The Wind Surge defeated the San Antonio Missions 1-0 for the second straight game on Friday Night thanks to a strong start on the mound from Simeon Woods Richardson as the Surge remain in first place.
The Surge broke the tie in the top of the ninth inning as Chris Williams hit a leadoff double and later scored on a bunt single from Jair Camargo and a throwing error by third baseman Juan Fernandez to give Wichita a 1-0 lead.
Woods Richardson made his 13th start on the mound for the Wind Surge this season and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, two walks, and tallied four strikeouts before being relieved by Brent Headrick. Headrick went on to pitch four scoreless innings out of the bullpen and allowed two hits and struck out two batters to earn the win.
Missions' starter Brandon Komar pitched six innings and allowed three hits and three walks before being relieved by Kevin Kopps in the seventh inning.
Bryan Sammons earned his second save to preserve the Wind Surge first ever 1-0 win. The Surge used four pitchers to earn their fourth shutout of the season.
Notes: Edouard Julien has reached base in 23 consecutive games... The Surge improved to 17-16 in one-run games and 24-24 on the road this season... Surge skipper Ramon Borrego earned his 498th career win.
Coming Up: The Wind Surge will resume action against the San Antonio Missions tomorrow, August 6th for a 7:05 first pitch. Blayne Enlow will get the start on the mound for Wichita and Reggie Lawson will take the hill for the Missions. The game will be carried by radio ESPN Wichita 92.3, MiLB.com and Windsurge.com.
