Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders won their sixth game in a row, coming from behind to take down the Amarillo Sod Poodles 6-5 from Riders Field on Friday night. Trailing 5-3 in the seventh, Luisangel Acuna ripped a go-ahead three-run double to send the Riders to victory.
Amarillo (15-16, 47-53) took an early lead against RoughRiders (19-12, 55-45) starting pitcher Jack Leiter when Jorge Barrosa hit a lead-off home run on the first pitch of the game. Leiter went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs, all earned, on four hits while striking out four and walking three.
In the bottom of the second, Justin Foscue lifted his eighth home run of the season over the left field wall to tie the game at 1-1. It was Foscue's second-straight game with a long ball.
After the Riders took the lead in the fourth when Dustin Harris scored on a double play, the Sod Poodles took the lead back in the fifth. Ti'Quan Forbes scored on a wild pitch to tie the game before Roby Enriquez singled home Drew Stankiewicz to put Amarillo up 3-2.
The Sod Poodles added on in the seventh with an RBI double from Stankiewicz before Barrosa plated him on a sacrifice fly, increasing the lead to 5-2.
The Riders made their comeback in the seventh. Aaron Zavala continued his monster start to his Double-A career with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 5-3 prior to Acuna coming to the plate with the bases loaded. The 20-year-old lined a three-run double to left-center field to give the Riders their first lead since the fourth at 6-5.
With a 3-for-4 day, Zavala is now hitting .429 with a 1.348 OPS over his first six games in Frisco. Blaine Crim also poured in a 3-for-4 day at the dish for the Riders.
Joe Corbett (2-1) earned the victory despite allowing a pair of runs, one earned, over his inning of work. Grant Anderson came on in the ninth to collect his second save of the season in a scoreless inning with a pair of strikeouts.
Mack Lemieux (0-2) was handed the loss for Amarillo.
The series continues on Saturday, August 6th with LHP Cody Bradford (6-6, 6.26) taking the mound against Amarillo RHP Ross Carver (0-1, 21.60) with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
