Surf Dawgs Sign Matt Maloney

SAN DIEGO - Matt Maloney made an immediate impact in his first professional at bat Monday night. Maloney, who flew into San Diego on Monday morning, hit a two-run home run in his first at bat as a member of the Surf Dawgs.

Maloney (Auburndale, Fla.) hit .342 with nine home runs and 43 RBI's in 55 games for the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs and led the Atlantic-Sun conference with 26 doubles. The 26 doubles were the second most in Bulldog school history and his doubles per game average was fourth in the nation. He was recently named to the All-Atlantic Sun Conference second team for his play this season. His nine outfield assists set a new Bulldog record for outfield assists in a season.

The Surf Dawgs have also released shortstop Justin Moore, returning the roster size to 21. The GBL maximum is 22 players.

San Diego travels up to Long Beach for a quick three-game set before returning home on Tuesday to play host to the Chico Outlaws for the first time in 2006. First pitch is at 7:05 PT.
