Chico Outlaws News Release

SAN DIEGO, CA - The usually productive Chico offense was kept in check Wednesday, as left-hander Justin Ottman and two relievers combined to hold the Outlaws to just four hits on the night, leading San Diego to a 4-2 win and evening their three-game series with the Outlaws at a game apiece.

While Ottman faced just one batter over the minimum through five scoreless innings, San Diego built a 3-0 lead against Chico starting pitcher Robert Anaya. Back-to-back singles by Tony Garcia and Matt Connolly to lead off the Surf Dawgs 2nd inning and a double play grounder off the bat of Kevin Ciarrachi plated Garcia with the game's first run...then in the 4th San Diego added to their lead - Scott Goodman scoring from third on an Anaya wild pitch...then later in the inning Nick Guerra came home on a fielder's choice grounder to put San Diego up 3-0.

In the 6th Chico scored what would prove to be their only runs of the game - Jesse Kovacs tripled with one out and scored on an Alex Froloff sacrifice fly. With two outs in the inning, Bobby Gandolfo reached on a Garcia error, stole second and came home on Desi Wilson's ground single to center, cutting the Surf Dawgs lead to one. The score remained 3-2 until the 8th, when San Diego plated an insurance run against Outlaws reliever Chris Searle - Guerra led off the inning with a single, was wild pitched to second and scored on Garcia's bloop single to right. Now up 4-2, Surf Dawgs closer Josh Rummonds closed things out, retiring Chico in order in the 9th to lock down the victory.

Ottman (2-1) allowed just one earned run in six-plus innings of work to pick up the win, with Rummonds posting his fourth save of the season...Anaya (0-2) took the loss for the Chico. Wilson had two of the Outlaws four hits, while Goodman led the Surf Dawgs 11-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. Wednesday's win improved San Diego's record to 8-11, while Chico slipped to 9-11 on the year. The rubber game of the series is set for Thursday night, with right-hander Nick Singleton (2-2) on the mound for the Outlaws...the Surf Dawgs will counter with righty Chris Gale (0-1). Game time is 7:05pm.
