Brooklyn Aviators News Release
HYANNIS, Mass. - The Brooklyn Aviators dropped their third straight game after a 4-2 defeat against the Cape Cod Bluefins at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center in Federal Hockey League action.
Brad Surdam had two goals and an assist to pace the Bluefins offense in the victory.
Cape Cod opened the scoring 6:24 into the first period to take a 1-0 lead over Brooklyn. Surdam, who was the FHL's Rookie of the Month for November, collected his 10th goal of the season after redirecting a pass in front of A's new netminder, Rick Scarsella.
The Aviators had two power play chances and outshot Cape Cod 15-11, however could not solve Bluefins goalie Chris Testa.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period, as Scarsella and Testa both made key stops to keep the game gridlocked at 1-0 in favor of the Bluefins.
Surdam gave the Bluefins a 2-0 edge on his second goal of the game after deflecting Derek Scanlon's shot from the point over the shoulder of Scarsella 1:52 into the final period. Billy Tibbetts added to the score on his ninth marker of the year, which gave Cape Cod a 3-0 lead at the 10:28 mark. Tibbetts broke in back door and buried the pass from Andrew Hutton into the empty net from inside the right wing circle.
Nick Petriello tallied his first in an Aviator uniform with 4:38 left in the game to cut the deficit to 3-1. The former Buffalo State product put home a one-timer from the slot to get the Aviators on the board and snap Testa's shutout bid. Kevin McCready, for Cape Cod, and Jesse Felten, for Brooklyn, added late goals each for their respective clubs.
Testa earns his sixth win of the year stopping 30 shots, while Scarsella is charged with the loss despite making 26 saves.
The Brooklyn Aviators return home on Friday night when they take on the visiting New Jersey Outlaws at the Aviator Sports and Events Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. and can viewed live via the Aviators broadcast network, powered by LiveSportsVideo.com
