Old Orchard Beach News Release
Brockton, Mass. -- Four North Shore pitchers combined to limit the Brockton Rox to five hits as the Navigators earned their fourth consecutive road victory, 5-1, in a Futures Collegiate League affair at Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The game was scoreless until the fourth, when the Navigators (5-1) pushed across the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by 1B Rob Krentzman (Lexington, Mass./Bucknell), scoring LF Esteban Paula (Lynn, Mass./Western Oklahoma State).
Brockton (1-4) tied things up in the fifth with a sacrifice fly of their own off the bat of RF Sean Ryan.
North Shore took the lead for good with a pair of seventh-inning runs, aided by shaky Brockton defense. C Brett Cahill (Gloucester, Mass./Salem State) led off the frame by reaching on an error, and later scored on a double by SS Jake McGuiggan (Hingham, Mass./Harvard). The following batter, 3B Ryan Muno (La Quinta, Calif./San Diego State) then reached on another Rox error, with McGuiggan scampering home for the team's third tally.
Muno provided the Navigators with a pair of insurance runs in the ninth, blasting a two-run home run to make it a 5-1 game. The rising sophomore has hit both North Shore home runs so far this season.
North Shore starter Bobby Dean (Danvers, Mass./Rhode Island) gave his team four and one-third solid innings of work, allowing a run on two hits while fanning six. Sam Berry, Miles Landry and Ryan Grant pitched the rest of the way, with Landry (1-0) awarded the victory after allowing no runs on two hits in two and two-thirds innings pitched. Reliever Craig LeJeune (0-1) was saddled with the loss in relief for the Rox.
On the offensive side, McGuiggan and Krentzman both had two-hit evenings for the Navigators, while Brockton 2B Tanner Riebenspies also had a pair of base knocks.
North Shore returns to Fraser Field Thursday at 7:00 p.m. for their first encounter with the Martha's Vineyard Sharks.
