PITTSFIELD, MA (June 10, 2014) - The Pittsfield Suns (5-7) were victorious over the Titans for the second time in five days, defeating Torrington (1-4) 7-5 this afternoon, before a crowd of 1,571 of mostly students during the third annual School Day at Wahconah Park.
Fans had a lot to cheer about early, as the Suns jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning. A Titans walk to Tyler Bell, a double by Michael Valentin, Jr. and a walk to Dan Palazzo loaded the bases for Jeff McGarry who smacked a bases clearing single to and Zach Tower followed with an RBI-single, to score McGarry.
Torrington battled back, scoring a single run in both the fourth and fifth innings to bring the tally to 4-2 Suns, and then would put together a three-run sixth inning to jump ahead of Pittsfield
Jack St. Clair led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to bring Torrington to within one run of the Suns. Tyler Olmstead followed with a single and a stolen base and would come around to score on Mike Odenwaelder's RBI-single, tying the game at four. The Titan's third and final run of the frame would come after a double by Langston Coolhan who would score after an error by the Suns second basemen, Tad Martin.
Torrington's lead wouldn't last long, as Pittfield would plate a run in the bottom of the sixth, and a pair of runs in the seventh for the final tally of 7-5 Suns.
RHP Phil Reese (1-1), earned the victory, going five and a third innings. He was charged with five runs (three earned), eight hits, two walks and one strikeout for the Suns. Kevin Connolly (0-1), who relieved starter Mike Gibbons in the sixth inning, would get the loss.
The Suns are back in action again tomorrow, Wednesday, June 11h for a second School Day at Wahconah Park. First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 AM.
