Suns To Host National Anthem Tryouts

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns, along with 104.7 FM WAYZ, will conduct open auditions for singers and musicians interested in performing the National Anthem for the Municipal Stadium crowd over the course of the 2009 season. Tryouts will take place on Saturday, March 21 at Municipal Stadium, with registration starting at 11:00 a.m. and auditions beginning at 11:30 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, Sunday, March 22 will serve as a rain date.

Tryouts will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the Suns advise participants to arrive early, as a large turnout is expected. The Suns will use the auditions to select approximately fifty performers to sing (or play) the National Anthem before a Suns game this season.

"Each and every year, we are blown away by the talent and enthusiasm of our National Anthem audition pool," said Reed Hunley, Suns' Director of Promotions & Special Events. "This year at auditions, we are excited to welcome back some of our returning stars while we continue to uncover the Quad-State region's brightest up-and-comers."

Participants must either play the National Anthem with an instrument or sing the piece a cappella (without instrumental accompaniment). Singers are permitted to audition individually or in groups.

The top five contestants, as selected by the Suns panel of judges, could have the chance to sing live on the NBC25 morning show as part of a "Sing for the Suns" competition.

All performers five (5) years of age or older are welcome to audition. However, if a participant is under eighteen (18) years of age, he or she must have a parent or guardian present to sign the registration form prior to the tryout. In addition, all selected performers must be able to provide their own transportation to the game.

The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
