Suns Take Two from Diamond Jaxx

(Jacksonville, FL) April 6th- The Jacksonville Suns swept a doubleheader from the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx on Sunday winning the first game 4-3 and taking the nightcap 2-1.

In the opener, Jacksonville snapped a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to pick up the win. Russell Mitchell hit a pair of home runs while Lucas May and Rene Rivera drove in a run each in the pivotal sixth inning to pace the Suns offense. Marlon Arias (1-0) allowed an unearned run on one hit over five innings to pick up the win. Brian Akin picked up his first save of the season, despite allowing two runs in the seventh inning. Justin Thomas suffered the loss, dropping his record to 0-1 on the season. Thomas allowed three runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings of work. Luis Valbuena and Marshall Hubbard had one hit and one RBI each to pace the Diamond Jaxx attack.

In the nightcap, Bobby Malek broke a 1-1 tie with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 6th inning as the Suns went on for the 2-1 win. Eduardo Sierra (2-0) pitched a scoreless inning to pick up his second win of the season. Yhency Brazoban retired the side in order in the 7th inning to nail down his second save of the season. Marwin Vega (0-1) suffered the loss in his first appearance of the season. Luis Oliveros had two hits to pace the Diamond Jaxx four hit attack. All four hits in the nightcap were doubles.

The Diamond Jaxx and Jacksonville play the final game of the series on Monday morning at 10:05 CDT. Left-hander Ryan Ketchner gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Jacksonville will counter with right-hander Mario Alvarez.
