MOBILE, Ala. - Four BayBear pitchers combined to allow just four hits as the BayBears rolled to their second straight win over the Carolina Mudcats, 2-1 today at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Adam Howard (1-0) started the ballgame for the BayBears (2-3) and was sharp through five innings as he allowed just two singles while recording a pair of strikeouts. The only trouble that Howard got into was in the first inning when he let Lorenzo Scott and Cameron Maybin reach via walks. With Scott on third, Gaby Sanchez flied out to right fielder Chris Rahl, who fired the ball to the plate, retiring Scott after a collision with catcher John Hester.

With momentum in their favor, the BayBears got on the board against Carolina (3-2) starter Brett Sinkbeil (0-1) in the bottom of the first. Guillermo Reyes reached on a one-out double and moved to third after a pair of walks. Rusty Ryal grounded out to third, which brought Reyes to the plate for the game's first run.

The BayBears scored again in the third as Reyes walked and took third on a single by Bryan Byrne. As Brandon Burgess hit into a double play, Reyes crossed the plate to make it 2-0 BayBears. Carolina pushed across a run in the sixth inning as Grant Psomas was walked by Mark Rosen with the bases loaded, allowing Chris Coghlan to score.

The Mudcats threatened to tie the game in the sixth but Abe Woody induced a fielder's choice groundball with the bases loaded to end that frame. In the eighth, Coghlan singled to start the inning and advanced to third after a steal and a balk, but Reid Mahon pitched out of trouble and worked a perfect ninth for his first save.
