Hagerstown Suns News Release

On Thursday, September 14th, the Hagerstown Suns and Susquehanna Bank jointly presented a check to the United Way of Washington County for a grand total of $3,000.

As part of the "Swingin' for the Fences" season-long promotion, Susquehanna Bank has been donating $25 for each Suns home run to the non-profit United Way of Washington County. The Hagerstown Suns players combined to hit 83 home runs during the 2006 season which amounted to $2,075. Susquehanna Bank increased that total to $3,000 to serve as the first donation of the 2006 United Way fundraising campaign.

"We are thrilled that we were able to play a part in helping to raise $3,000 for the United Way," said Suns President, and member of the United Way Board of Directors, Kurt Landes. "Susquehanna Bank wanted to be involved with the Hagerstown Suns, but also highlight their support and community involvement. It was a big win for everyone."

"Susquehanna Bank is happy to be a long-standing supporter of the United Way of Washington County," said James G. Pierne, Chairman, President, and CEO of Susquehanna Bank. "Our partnership with the Hagerstown Suns is a great opportunity to help kick-off this year's annual campaign. And we invite everyone in the community to join us in supporting Washington County."

United Way of Washington County raised $1,649,569 in 2005 which funded 20 member agencies. The $3,000 check was awarded today at the campaign kick-off event held at the American Red Cross. The United Way campaign goal is $1,750,000 for 2006. The original kick-off was scheduled for September 1, 2006 at Municipal Stadium just before the Hagerstown Suns game, but it was rained-out.

"The United Way is extremely grateful for Susquehanna Bank's contribution of $3,000 to begin fundraising efforts in 2006," said United Way Executive Director, Dale Bannon. "We're also pleased to work with the Suns on our annual campaign kick-off although Tropical Storm Ernesto put a damper on that this year. We look forward to a sunny kick-off at Municipal Stadium in 2007."
