Orlando Rays News Release
ORLANDO -Jacksonville pounded out 14 runs on 17 hits as the visiting Suns routed the Orlando Rays 14-3 in front of 2,053 at Cracker Jack Stadium Wednesday.
Every one of the Suns position players had at least one hit, and all but two drove in at least one run. Nick Alvarez did the most damage while the game was still in doubt, going 3-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI. Reggie Abercrombie completed the scoring for the Suns with a ninth-inning grand slam off infielder Dan DeMent, who pitched the ninth for the Rays in an effort to save the already-overworked bullpen.
Frank Moore led the Rays attack with a 3-5 effort, adding a triple, run scored and one RBI. DeMent went 2-5 with a RBI while Jonny Gomes went 2-4 with two stolen bases and one run scored.
The Rays and Suns complete the series tomorrow at 11:05 a.m. with RHP Matt White (0-1, 4.91) throwing for the Rays while Jacksonville counters with RHP Edwin Jackson (2-4, 2.58).
