Suns Drop Third Straight, Lose to Nashua 4-1

July 14, 2013 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Pittsfield Suns News Release

The Suns (12-17) were able to keep it close Sunday afternoon but were not able to string together enough hits to overcome the Nashua Silver Knights (20-9). Aaron Plunkett (2-2) was the tough luck loser after getting dinked and dunked to death by the Silver Knights. Tom Hackimer and Mike Geannelis kept the game within striking distance for the offense but the hits just were not falling.

Plunkett cruised through the first two innings before getting into trouble in the third. Back-to-back singles led off the third inning, both coming around to score, to give the Silver Knights at 2-0 lead. Nashua scored two more in the fifth inningbefore Hackimer relieved Plunkett, giving them a 4-0 lead.

The Suns mounted a rally in the sixth inning with Rob McLam and Steve Dill getting on base to start the inning. McLam eventually scored on a Brendan Slattery sacrifice fly but that is all that the Suns could muster against Silver Knights starter Tom Hudon.

The Suns play the Silver Knights again tomorrow night in Nashua. The Suns return home Tuesday and Wednesday to face the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide and the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs.
