Suns announce 2003 Coaching Staff

Hagerstown, MD – The Hagerstown Suns are pleased to announce their coaching staff for the 2003 season, set to begin on April 3rd at Greensboro.

The field general for the Suns will once again be Mike Ramsey. Ramsey, returning for his second season with the Suns, led the ballclub to a 63-77 finish last year. In the two years prior, Ramsey managed the Orlando Rays of the Southern (AA) League, being named the manager for the 2000 All-Star team; he has also managed in the St. Louis Cardinal and San Diego Padre organizations. Over seven seasons in the major leagues, most of which were spent with the Cardinals, Ramsey hit .240 and was well known for his work with the leather. Ramsey is "extremely happy to be back in Hagerstown. The front office and the people of Hagerstown have treated me very well."

Ramsey will be joined in the Suns' dugout by pitching coach Bob Stanley and hitting coach Willie Aviles. Over 13 years, Stanley appeared on the hill in 637 regular-season games for the Boston Red Sox and is their all time leader in relief wins, with 85. A member of the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame and participant in the 1986 World Series, Stanley served as the pitching coach for the Binghamton Mets of the Eastern (AA) League the past two seasons. "I'm looking forward to being in Hagerstown with a first class operation like the Suns," said Stanley. Aviles, who will act as the hitting coach, has coached in the Cleveland organization for the last five years, most recently with the Burlington Indians of the Appalachian (Rookie) League.

Back for another season with the Suns is their trainer, Katsu Masumoto, a native of Scarborough, Maine.

The Hagerstown Suns, of the South Atlantic League, are the single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The Suns' home opener is April 10th against Lexington, and the season runs through September 1st. Ticket packages and sponsorships are available by calling 301/791-6266.
