Pittsfield Suns News Release

PITTSFIELD, MA (June 25, 2015) - The Pittsfield Suns and Torrington Titans split a double header Thursday evening at Wahconah Park. The Suns prevailed in the first game 1-0, but dropped Game Two to the Titans 5-3.

One run would be all the Suns would need after a stellar pitching performance from starter Adam Erkis, and that run would come in the fourth inning. Back to back singles by Tyler Lyne and Dan Palazzo put runners on the corners for Cam O'Neill who hit into a double play, but would allow Lyne to score.

Erkis pitched shut out ball, allowing only three hits and one walk while retiring 14 straight batters in six innings of the abbreviated game. Dom Grillo came on in the seventh to record the save.

Game Two was not that lucky for the Suns. The Titans scored one run in the first inning. Two back-to-back walks to Nick Lamberti and Joe Paparelli would haunt starter Corey Wilson. With a runner in scoring position Torrington would hit two groundballs to plate Lamberti to give them a 1-0 lead.

The Titans increased their lead by four runs in the next frame, highlighted by two-run homer by Joel Roman, to give them a 5-0 advantage.

The Suns main highlight would come from a towering homer off the bat of Homer Bross in the second, but the deficit was too large to overcome. Torrington would take Game Two 5-3.

Frank Valentino took the win for the Titans, throwing six innings, striking out six and giving up four hits, two balls and one earned run. Corey Wilson would record the loss.

The Suns are back on the diamond at Wahconah Park when they take on the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs on Wednesday, July 1st. It's Battle of the Breweries, so fans can taste some of the fantastic locally brewed beers. Visit pittsfieldsuns.com or call (413)445-SUNS for event and ticket details.
