North Shore Honu News Release
North Shore's Sung Woo Jang singled up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to score Ryan Kalish from second and give the Honu a 3-2, come-from-behind victory over Honolulu tonight at Hans L'Orange Park.
The North Shore bullpen kept the squad in the game after starter Yasutaka Hattori departed, as three relievers combined to toss five scoreless innings and strike out 11 Sharks hitters. Shawn Nottingham (1-1) emerged victorious after striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.
Shintaro Masuda put Honolulu on the board in the third inning with a two-run home run over the fence in left-center field to plate Darin Holcomb, and give Honolulu a 2-0 advantage.
The Honu (7-12) narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the home half of the seventh when with the bases loaded and one out, Yamaico Navarro picked up a sacrifice fly to right field as Kyu Hyun Moon came home to score. After Honolulu reliever Austin Chambliss hit Matt McBride to load the bases again, Blake King entered from the bullpen and got Jang to fly out, ending the threat.
But North Shore tied the contest in the eighth inning when Adam Davis walked, stole second and came in to score on Dustin Realini's single to right field. The hit was a game-high third base knock on the evening for the Cleveland Indians prospect.
Honolulu (13-6) starter Josh Stinson did not figure in the decision despite shutting the Honu out through four innings, and striking out five. Kyle Drabek, son of the 1990 National League Cy Young Award winner Doug Drabek, also chipped in two scoreless innings in his HWB debut with the Sharks.
Junior Guerra fell to 0-1, allowing the game-ending run on Jang's hit.
The teams return to Hans L'Orange Park tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the second game of a two-game series.
