Sundogs Grab Series Lead with 3-1 Win against Mavericks

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs grabbed the best-of-seven series lead against the Missouri Mavericks, with a 3-1 win Wednesday night at Tim's Toyota Center.

The Sundogs found themselves down after 20 minutes, when Andrew Courtney extended his point streak to 18 games, with 34 seconds left in a Missouri power play, resulting from an interference call on Sundogs' Tommy Maxwell. Matt Stephenson and Eric Castonguay were credited with the assists.

Arizona came out in the second period focused and ready for business posting three unanswered goals. David Rutherford kicked off the Sundogs' offense, registering a power play goal 8:26 into the period from Mike Forney. Four minutes later Michael Trebish tallied the game winning goal his first goal this season. Rutherford and Shawn Limpright were credited with the helpers. And with less than three minutes remaining in the second Kevin Baker sealed it for the Sundogs from Alex Tuckerman and Brandon Coccimiglio.

Despite a 5-on-3 man-advantage for Missouri, halfway through the third, Arizona held them off leading them to the victory.

Andrew Engelage continues to look strong between the pipes making 31 saves. Arizona outshot Missouri 41-32. The Sundogs were 1-3 on the power play and the Mavericks were 1-5.
