Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs announced today that the team has signed defensemen Jason Goulet and BJ Crum to the team for the upcoming 2011-12 Central Hockey League season.
The 28-year-old Goulet (goo-LAY) is set to begin his 10th professional season in October, his fifth in the CHL. Crum, also 28, competed with the Laredo Bucks last season for his first taste in the league.
"Jason is an experienced player, and will be a physical presence for us, especially in our own end," said Head Coach Marco Pietroniro. "He knows what it takes to be successful in the CHL so we're excited to bring another player with that knowledge aboard."
The upcoming season will be Goulet's first as a Sundog. Last season, the 6-foot-5, 245-pound defenseman appeared in 39 games for the Wichita Thunder, accumulating four assists and 121 penalty minutes. Arizona will be Goulet's fourth CHL stop. Along with Wichita, he also spent a season with the Rapid City Rush (2008-09) and two years with the Oklahoma City Blazers (2004-06).
Goulet's resume also includes a pair of seasons in the ECHL with four teams and an eight-game call-up to the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2006-07. In 2009-10, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native played overseas in England. He spent four years in the Western Hockey League at the junior level from 2000-04.
Prior to Laredo, Crum (KRUHM) played three seasons in the ECHL with the Johnstown Chiefs, Augusta Lynx, and an Alaska Aces team that made it the Kelly Cup finals in 2008. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman set a career high in Laredo with 12 assists and has appeared in at least 60 games each of the last two seasons.
"BJ is another defensive minded player that gives us stability in our own zone," added Pietroniro. "He can work the penalty kill, clear traffic, and really clog things up for opponents offensively. Signing Jason and BJ gives us balance both offensively and defensively."
Crum played four years at the University of Connecticut before beginning his pro career.
