TODAY'S GAME: The M-Braves conclude a six-game series against the Biloxi Shuckers at Trustmark Park. This is the fourth of five series between these two clubs, with the final series at MGM Park from September 6-11.
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The M-Braves ninth inning comeback bid came up short in a 5-3 loss to the Shuckers. LHP Dylan Dodd logged his second quality start, going 6.0 innings and allowing two runs. He struck out six to just one walk. Cody Milligan ricocheted a groundball off the second baseman to score the M-Braves' first run of the game, making it 2-1 in the sixth. Down 5-1 in the ninth, Vaughn Grissom led off with a grounder for a base hit through the left side of the infield. Back-to-back walks then loaded the bases with no outs. Stephens brought in a run on a fielder's choice groundout, and a wild pitch scored a second run to make it 5-3. Biloxi made a pitching change. RHP Cam Robinson, the MiLB leader with 22 saves, came in and retired the final two batters for his third save with the Shuckers.
WELCOME TO AA: The M-Braves added Landon Stephens on Friday. He picked up his first Double-A hit and RBI on Saturday. In 88 games for High-A Rome, Stephens is batting .224 with 19 home runs and 70 RBI. His 70 RBI leads the South Atlantic League and is 2nd in High-A.
A DIFFICULT GOODBYE: OF Trey Harris was traded to the Washington Nationals in exchange for OF Ehire Adrianza. Harris was batting .238 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 59 games.
- Harris came to the M-Braves on July 18, 2019. He was the 2019 Atlanta braves Minor League Player of the Year and combined to hit .323 with 14 home runs, 73 RBI, and eight stolen bases over three levels of the Braves organization.
- The Austell, GA native, and fan favorite appeared in 196 games for Mississippi since 2019, posting a .252 batting average with 30 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 78 RBI, and .681 OPS. Harris was a key contributor and team leader on the 2021 Double-A South Championship club, batting .350 with two doubles and five RBI during the championship series.
THE NEW GUYS AND A NEW #1: The M-Braves added OF Justyn-Henry Malloy, INF Vaughn Grissom, RHP Lisandro Santos, and LHP Dylan Dodd on July 12 from High-A Rome. - On Tuesday, August 2, INF Vaughn Grissom was named Atlanta's No. 1 prospect by MLB Pipeline. In his first week in Double-A, INF Vaughn Grissom hit .462 (12-for-26) with a triple, home run, five RBI, three runs, and three stolen bases. The Oviedo, FL native hit in his first nine games and 17 of his first 20 games with Mississippi, batting .351 with two home runs, 11 RBI, and seven stolen bases. Grissom lost an on-base streak of 45-straight games for Rome and Mississippi from May 27 to July 24.
- Justyn-Henry Malloy is batting .274 with two home runs, two doubles, and 11 RBI in 20 games. Malloy blasted a three-run walk-off home run on Friday, July 15. Malloy hit .304/10 HR/44 RBI/.888 OPS in 71 games for Rome. He is currently ranked as Atlanta's No. 27 prospect.
- LHP Dylan Dodd went six shutout innings in his Double-A debut with seven strikeouts on July 17, and in four starts has a 4.35 ERA with 24 strikeouts and six walks. Dodd went 9-5 with a 3.44 ERA in 89.0 innings over 15 starts for Rome. He is currently ranked as Atlanta's No. 19 prospect. - LHP Lisandro Santos is 1-0 with two runs allowed in 8.0 innings over seven relief appearances. Santos posted a 3.40 ERA in 20 appearances, four starts, and over 47.2 innings for Rome.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE SHUCKERS: The M-Braves took four of six from the Shuckers from June 28-July 3, winning the series' final four games by a combined 36-14. On Saturday, July 2, the M-Braves posted their biggest win of the season, 18-4, with 18 hits. THE COMEBACK KIDS: The M-Braves came from behind for the 7th time in the final inning, or later, Friday, July 22 at Montgomery. The M-Braves had just two comeback wins in the final inning or later last season. Four of those comebacks have come at Riverwalk Stadium. The M-Braves have walked off five times at Trustmark Park, including back-to-back walk-offs on July 7-8.
THE SLUGBAUER MAKING MISSISSIPPI HISTORY: 1B Drew Lugbauer set a club record with seven RBI on Saturday, July 2, at Biloxi. Lubgauer has hit a club-record 40 career M-Braves home runs over two seasons. He hit 18 home runs in 2021. - Lugbauer hit a walk-off three-run homer on Friday, July 8 vs. PNS and a walk-off single on Friday, June 3 vs. MTG. He is in the league's top 10 in...home runs (22, T-1st), RBI (57, 7th), XBH (41, 2nd), walks (54, T-4th), and total bases (164, 3rd).
VINES SHINES AGAIN: RHP Darius Vines has a 1.51 ERA over his last eight starts (8 ER/47.2 IP), 44 strikeouts, nine walks, matching career highs with 7.0 shutout innings on June 25 at MTG and July 1 at BLX. He leads the league with 127 strikeouts, and 107.0 innings pitched while also ranking among the leaders in starts (20, T-1st), ERA (3.95, 4th), AVG (.244, 6th), and WHIP (1.21, 4th). Vines' 127 strikeouts are 2nd in Double-A and 6th in MiLB. - With his seven shutout innings at Biloxi on July 1, Vines was the first M-Brave to earn Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 28-July 3.
MILLER TIME: INF Jalen Miller is at his best in clutch situations. With runners in scoring position, he is batting .354 with two home runs and 25 RBI. On the season, Miller is hitting .238 with seven homers and 31 RBI.
APRIL SHOWERS, MAY FLOWERS, JUNE THUNDERSTORMS, JULY SUNSHINE: After going 7-13 in April, the M-Braves turned it around with a 16-10 record in May, the most wins of any Southern League team in May. In June, the club finished 7-19, tying their club record for the most losses in June. The M-Braves went 16-8 in July. The 16 wins were 2nd in Double-A and T-5th in MiLB. The month included a six-game sweep of Rocket City (first six-game sweep in club history) and a season-long seven-game win streak. The pitching staff was 2nd in Double-A with a 3.59 ERA.
