EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats are pleased to announce that lineman Joel Stubblefield will return to Evansville to play for the team for a second season. Last season Stubblefield was a valuable addition to the team, playing in ten games and seeing action on both the offensive and defensive line.
Stubblefield, originally from Pendleton, Indiana, attended Pendleton Heights High School where he played football, basketball, wrestling, and baseball. He later went on to play football for Indiana University and Indiana State University.
During high school, he was a standout at several positions on the gridiron. He saw time at defensive tackle, defensive end, linebacker, and on the offensive line. He earned All-Conference and All-County honors for three seasons, and earned All-State honors at defensive tackle for two years. He also served as a team captain during his junior and senior season.
As a wrestler, he earned All-State honors in wrestling twice, and finished in 6th place at the state wrestling tournament.
Stubblefield played defensive end at IU in the 2003 season, earning a varsity letter as a true freshman. He went on to play defensive tackle in 2004 with Indiana State.
Last season with Evansville, he started three games at center and saw regular action at defensive tackle, offensive guard, and defensive end.
This past fall he was an assistant coach at Noblesville High School in Noblesville, Indiana, where he worked with the defensive line. In the offseason he works as a special education instructional assistant in Noblesville and takes classes towards a degree in criminal justice through Indiana University. Stubblefield plans to pursue a career in law enforcement when his pro football days are over.
Joel Stubblefield said, "When I came down to visit the new coaching staff, I really hit it off with Coach Hart and Coach Schearer. I got along great with the office staff last year and it was great to see them again. I'm really excited about coming to town and playing with all the other good players coming in, and the fans in Evansville are tremendous, I can't wait!"
