Strykers Top Cane Cutters 6-2

Woodlands Strykers News Release


The Woodlands Strykers earned a 6-2 win over the Acadiana Cane Cutters tonight from Strykers Stadium at The Woodlands Christian Academy. The Strykers got timely hits and had runners on base to score most of their runs early in the ballgame. The Strykers will now head on the road for two games to take on the East Texas Pump Jacks.

Conner Fikes got the office going early as he hit a triple to right center field to lead off the game. Two batters later, designated hitter Dirk Masters would drill a pitch to the outfield that would score Fikes to make it a 1-0 ballgame. The Strykers scored four runs in the second inning. Catcher, Daniel Homann started the inning off by drawing a walk. First baseman, Taylor Taska also came to the plate and drew a walk. Following the walk to Taska, Robert Heep would line a single that made the bases loaded. Dalton Perry was the next batter and hit into a 6-3 groundout that scored Homann for the first run. The second run would score when Zach Davis would hit a single that scored Taska. Fikes would come back to the plate and hit a two RBI single that would score both Heep and Davis. The Strykers would add one run in the eighth. That came on a RBI single by Brian Smith that scored Fikes who had led the inning off with a single.

Matt Danton started on the mound again for the Strykers. Danton pitched a great game as he would pitch eight innings, giving up five hits and one run. He struck out seven batters. Danton would throw a total of 96 pitches with 68 being strikes. Gandy Stubblefield would pitch the ninth inning and struck out three batters.

The team now travels back to Kilgore to open a two game series with the Pump Jacks. Game 1 will be tomorrow night at 7:05 from Driller Park in Kilgore. The two teams will close out the series on Friday night also with a 7:05 game. The Strykers return home this Saturday and Sunday when they open a two game series with the league leading Brazos Valley Bombers. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 both nights.
