Strong Stats and Strikeouts not enough for Aviators

July 21, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release

After last night's close loss to the Gems, the Aviators sprung into action for tonight's rematch. Likewise, the Gems wasted no time working to defeat the Aviators. A Gems home run, due in part to force and in part to wind, created an early 3 run deficit for the Aviators. The Aviators got to work immediately in front of a season record crowd of 1405. They were only able to put 1 run on the board in the first.

The Aviators played catch up the rest of the game. The Gems put a fast 4 on the board in the second and 5 in the sixth, with only 2 Aviators runs to attempt to close the gap. By the end of the sixth the Aviators fell victim to a 10 run deficit.

However, the score doesn't show the strong performance key Aviators players had Saturday. Pitcher DJ DePiero had 9 strikeouts on the night. Kevin Raisbeck hits 3 on the night and Bryce Ball had 4. Relief pitcher Caleb Thomas threw 2 hitless innings.

A few great performances were far from enough, as the Aviators finished the night losing to the Gems 13-4.

The Aviators hit the road tomorrow night to play Champion City at 4:05.
