Chillicothe Paints News Release
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Bad weather delayed the start and then cut the game short, but the Chillicothe Paints (26-20), presented by Adena Health System, earned a big 2-1 win over the visiting Butler BlueSox (19-28) Friday night at VA Memorial Stadium.
The game started 48 minutes late due to scattered thunderstorms across the region, both teams' bats were mostly silent once play began.
Michael Jacob didn't give up a run until the top of the fifth, when the BlueSox broke the scoreless tie with a run on two walks and two wild pitches. Jacob struck out nine in his five innings of work.
The Paints answered in the bottom half. Dan McCauley, celebrating his 20th birthday, hit a solo home run to lead off the inning. Three batters later, Chad Roberts (he turned 23 the day before) went deep to give the Paints a 2-1 lead.
Shortly after the fifth ended, lightning forced both teams to leave the field and eventually forced officials to call the game complete.
Jacob (3-1) earned the win, while Butler starter Tre Thomas (2-2) took the loss. He allowed two runs on three hits, walked four and struck out five over five innings.
The first-place Paints host the BlueSox again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. on "Cool Treats Night" by Dairy Queen. It's also Strike Out Stroke Night at VA Memorial Stadium. Gates open at 6:05 p.m.
