Pittsfield Suns News Release

The Pittsfield Suns defeated the Martha's Vineyard Sharks 5-1 Thursday evening at Wahconah Park in front of 2,946, thanks in a large part to a stellar pitching performance from Suns starter, Jamin McCann.

The bats heated up for Pittsfield in the third inning after a notorious sun delay. Back to back walks to Dan Cellucci and Luke Reynolds would haunt the Sharks as both would come around to score on a throwing error by the shortstop, making it 2-0 Pittsfield.

The Suns scored two more in the fourth inning to pad their lead to 4-0. Jeff McGarry led the inning off with a single and scored the very next batter when Derek Gardella smacked a double to plate Pittsfield's third run of the night. Cellucchi would then single and advance to second after a play at the plate retired Gardella. Reynolds got the second RBI of the frame singling to score Cellucchi.

Each team added a run in the fifth inning. A single by Ross Danzig would score Martha's Vineyard's only run of the night as he was plated after a sacrifice hit from Kevin Foley, a wild pitch and another sacrifice hit by Ryan Kelly.

Suns starter Jamin McCann (3-0) stunned the Sharks at the plate, allowing only one hit, one run, striking out three and walking four batters in seven inning pitched. Kyle Brenner (2-1) went five innings, allowing six hits, three earned runs and three walks before recording the loss.

The Suns are back at Wahconah Park this Saturday, June 28th when they take on the Torrington Titans. Gates will open at 6 PM for a 7 PM first pitch. For tickets, visit pittsfieldsuns.com or call (413)445-SUNS.
