Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

FORT LAUDERDALE (Friday, January 10, 2013) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have today announced that forwards David Foley and Yaikel Pérez have re-signed with the club for the 2014 North American Soccer League (NASL) season. As per club policy, the terms of the deals were not disclosed.

David Foley, 26, was one of the highest-profile signings made by the Strikers ahead of the 2013 Spring season. The Englishman joined the club after three seasons with the Puerto Rico Islanders, helping the club to a USSF D2 Pro League title in 2010 and earning a place on the NASL Best XI the following season.

The high hopes for Foley were justified with a goal on his Strikers debut in the season opener against FC Edmonton at Lockhart. In his fifth appearance of the season Foley scored the winning goal against Minnesota United FC on May 11 before suffering an injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

"We're looking forward to having a healthy David Foley make a substantial contribution to our team this year," said Managing Director Tim Robbie. "He is a proven veteran who is always dangerous with his tremendous skill and pace."

Yaikel Pérez, 28, tallied three goals and an assist in 10 appearances with the Strikers in the 2013 Fall season. The former Cuban national team forward joined the club on August 13, 2013 after spending time in El Salvador with Águila and Alianza.

"Yaikel Pérez is a proven goal scorer who is poised to become one of the league's top scorers," said Robbie. "We expect him to play a vital role on our team this year."

Foley and Pérez join Mark Anderson, Iván Guerrero, Carlos Salazar and homegrown talents Gonzalo De Mujica, Manny Gonzalez, Aly Hassan, and Darnell King on the list of players that have already re-signed for the upcoming season. More player signings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as the Strikers build toward the 2014 season.
