FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Friday, February 13, 2015) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have signed German defender Fabian Kling. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Kling, 27, arrives in Fort Lauderdale following experience in Germany with FV Illertissen and TSV Rain am Lech and in the United States with San Antonio Scorpions.
"Fabian brings size and physicality to our back line," Strikers General Manager Amaury Nunes said. "His experience playing overseas as well as in the NASL will be a big asset to the team."
Kling started his career in his native Germany in the youth academy of current Bundesliga side FC Augsburg. He joined TSV Rain am Lech from Augsburg's U-19 side in 2006, before coming to the United States for college.
Kling enjoyed a successful college soccer career with NSCAA Division II power Fort Lewis College. He scored 28 goals in 86 appearances, captained the Skyhawks his junior and senior years, and earned several NSCAA Division II and All-America honors. Kling continued to play in Germany for TSV Rain am Lech during his summer breaks.
Major League Soccer (MLS) side Chivas USA drafted Kling in 2012. He trialed with English Championship side Reading before signing in the North American Soccer League (NASL) with San Antonio Scorpions ahead of their first professional season in 2012.
The Scorpions captured the NASL Regular Season title in 2012 with Kling featuring in 15 matches. He left the club following the conclusion of the season to return to Germany.
