New York Cosmos News Release
NEW YORK (February 13, 2015) - The New York Cosmos announced today that the club has signed defender Samuel Cáceres on loan from Argentine club Nueva Chicago. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"I was drawn to New York by the vision of the Cosmos organization," said Cáceres. "I'm looking forward to getting started with training camp and facing a new challenge in the U.S. at this stage of my career."
Cáceres most recently played in Argentina with Buenos Aires-based club Nueva Chicago. Cáceres made 12 appearances (with 11 starts) for Nueva Chicago in 2014.
"Cáceres adds more quality to our back line," said Cosmos head Giovanni Savarese. "He's had some valuable experience in Argentina and is in the prime of his career, but he's a player that we anticipate will continue to develop and improve. We expect him to compete for playing time here."
The 25-year-old from Asunción, Paraguay has spent his entire professional career with Independiente and Nueva Chicago. Cáceres originally played on Independiente's U20 squad in 2008, moved to Independiente's reserve team in 2009 and arrived at Nueva Chicago for the first time in 2011.
