Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

Fort Lauderdale, FL (April 14, 2011) -The Fort Lauderdale Strikers will host the Minnesota Stars on Friday, April 14 at 8:30 PM at Lockhart Stadium. This will be the second home match for the Strikers in the 2011 NASL season.

"The guys are excited to get back on the field after the last game," states Strikers Head Coach Daryl Shore. "We look forward to putting together a better effort Friday night for ninety minutes."

A new era in South Florida soccer began on Saturday April 9th when a vibrant crowd of over 6,400 packed Lockhart Stadium to watch the newly re-branded Fort Lauderdale Strikers. The Strikers look to emulate the success of the old franchise that saw sellout crowds, world-class players, and a championship caliber team in South Florida.

About the Strikers

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers look to bounce back with a win against the Minnesota Stars after a 2-1 home defeat last week against FC Edmonton. This will be the Strikers second straight home game in as many regular season games played thus far.

New Additions

The Strikers added two more pieces to its offensive unit, forward Jean Phillipe Peguero and midfielder Yoximar Granados. Ex Haiti international Peguero Jean Phillipe spent several seasons with the MLS sides Colorado Rapids and the New York Red Bulls. Granados also spent time in the MLS, with the Chicago Fire.

Thompson Back in No Time

Strikers Forward Abe Thompson suffered a knock last week and is currently listed as questionable for the game against the NSC Minnesota Stars. Thompson is currently rehabbing at Atlantic Rehab Center with Head Athletic Trainer Joe Caroccio.

" I think Abe is progressing better than we expected. He has an excellent staff of trainers and coaches. We expect him back in the near future," said team Doctor Pieter Hommen.

About Minnesota

NSC Minnesota kicked off their season with a 2-1 road victory over the Atlanta Silverbacks at Atlanta Silverback Park. Kentro Takada gave the Silverbacks the 1-0 lead early in the second half, finishing on a difficult pass in the box. In the 64th minute, defender Mario Prez sent a low cross to Horth, who poked the ball home to even the game at 1-1. Minutes later, NSC Minnesota was able to steal three important road points in stoppage time. Gotsmanov was awarded a free kick curling the ball towards the far post, falling just out of the reach of Silverbacks goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer.
