
Strikers Re-Sign Four from 2014 Roster

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Thursday, January 15, 2015 ) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced that four players from the 2014 roster have re-signed with the club: goalkeeper David Meves, midfielders Manny Gonzalez and Walter Ramirez, and forward Aly Alberto Hassan. Per team and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
"We are really happy to sign these four returning players," Strikers General Manager Amaury Nunes said. "We feel strongly that this group of players will be good for us on, and off the field. They have proven themselves in this league and we are excited to have them back."
Meves, 24, will start his first full season for the Strikers in 2015. The goalkeeper from Arlington Heights, Illinois signed his first professional contract with the Strikers before the 2014 Fall Season. He made two appearances, featuring in a 2-1 win in his professional debut in Ottawa and a 2-1 defeat in Edmonton.
Ramirez, 31, will also start his first full season with the Strikers. The Honduran winger initially joined the club ahead of the 2014 Fall Season after starting the year with expansion side Indy Eleven.
The 2012 NASL Best XI midfielder scored one goal for the Strikers in nine appearances, finding the back of the net against former club San Antonio Scorpions in the 2014 NASL Championship Final.
Gonzalez, 24, returns to the Strikers for his third season with the club. The holding midfielder from Pompano made 12 appearances in 2014 as the Strikers challenged for the NASL Championship.
Since making his professional debut in the 2-1 victory against Minnesota United FC on May 11, 2013, Gonzalez has gone on to make 29 league appearances for the Strikers.
Hassan, 25, returns for his fourth season with the Strikers. The Weston native and Nova Southeastern University alum has made 48 appearances in all competitions for the Strikers since 2012, scoring 12 goals.
Hassan made 19 appearances in 2014, including a team-high 14 as a substitute. He scored three times including the crucial equalizer against Ottawa Fury FC in the regular season finale to ensure the Strikers' place in the postseason.
More player signings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The Strikers will also announce a new head coach on Saturday, January 17 at the Ronaldo Fan Fest at Lockhart Stadium.
