EDMONTON, AB (January 15, 2015) - FC Edmonton announce today that the club has come to terms on a loan agreement with KR Reykjavik for Icelandic midfielder Oskar Orn Hauksson pending ITC approval. As per club policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.
"This is a significant signing for us," said FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller. "Oskar will be a game changer and a crowd pleaser, he has good pace and good energy. I'm excited about the chance to work with him this year."
Hauksson, 30, is a native of Iceland and has spent the majority of his professional soccer career in his home country. In the 2014 season with KR Reykjavik, Hauksson played over 1,700 minutes and scored four times, with half of those goals resulting in a victory for the team. KR's current 2014 record stands at 10-4-5 (W-T-L) with Hauksson starting in all but two matches.
KR Reykjavik is the most successful club team in the Icelandic first division, Pepsideild. With 26 league titles since 1912, their most recent title came in 2013 while Hauksson was with the club.
"I'm very excited about joining FC Edmonton in the NASL," said Hauksson. "I am looking forward to the new challenge and hopefully we can achieve great things together."
Hauksson made his international debut in 2000 with the U-17 Iceland squad. He continued to play with the U-19 side before in 2009 joining the Men's National Icelandic team. Hauksson made his first appearance as a second half substitute in in a friendly 2-1 loss to the Faroe Islands and a second appearance in 2010 as an un-used substitute against Mexico during a 0-0 friendly.
