Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Thursday, May 21, 2015) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced that long-time club employee and current President Tim Robbie is resigning his post with the team. Robbie's last match as an employee will be this evening's contest between the Strikers and Carolina RailHawks at Lockhart Stadium. His last day will be next week.
Robbie, who oversees the Strikers' business-side department heads, will be participate in the ceremonial coin flip prior to tonight's match.
"The Strikers are in my blood, so I leave the organization with a heavy heart," said Robbie. "I'm looking forward to pursuing several opportunities that have come my way recently, but it's not easy to part ways with the club that has meant so much to me for so long. My time with the original Strikers in the '70s and '80s, and the opportunity to be a part of the rebirth of the Strikers four years ago has been a blessing for me. I plan to continue to support the organization in any way possible, and I wish the club continued success. I truly believe that the NASL and the Strikers have a very bright future ahead of them."
The Minneapolis native served the Strikers in various capacities since the Red & Gold's initial founding in 1977. As the club's general manager beginning in 1981, he oversaw all aspects of the club, including the Strikers' 1984 move from the North American Soccer League (NASL) to the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), which prompted relocation from Fort Lauderdale to Minnesota.
"We are grateful to Tim for his invaluable contributions to the Strikers, both recently and through the years," said Strikers Managing Partner Ricardo Geromel. "The Robbie name is legendary in soccer, and Tim is a key figure in giving soccer its initial foothold in South Florida. He will be missed by his colleagues and partners of the team."
Robbie's tenure with the new Strikers coincided with the club's rebirth in 2011. He served as president of the Strikers in 2011 and 2012 and managing director of the club in 2013 and 2014.
