Strikers on the Road to Face Carolina RailHawks

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 6, 2012) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (5W-4T-6L) return to WakeMed Soccer Park to face the Carolina RailHawks (5W-5T-5L) on Saturday, July 7 at 7:00p.m. EDT. The Strikers handed the RailHawks their only loss in the last six matches on June 30 at Lockhart Stadium. Fort Lauderdale is still without a win on the road this season, and Carolina has only one loss at home this season (4W-3T-1L). Despite the Strikers' position in sixth place, only five points separate second through sixth in the NASL standings.

"We haven't won on the road and that doesn't sit well with the coaching staff or the team," said Strikers head coach Daryl Shore. "We need to make sure the eleven guys who are out there are focused for 90 minutes and once we get a positive result we can start to think about where we fall in the table."

Carolina, after going without a win it its first nine games of the season, has more wins than any team since the start of June. Forward Nick Zimmerman has four goals in his last three games. This is the third meeting of the season and final regular season matchup at WakeMed Soccer Park. Fort Lauderdale earned its first point at the RailHawks' home in the previous game there on May 2.

After the Strikers' win in their last meeting, Fort Lauderdale is now 6W-2T-8L all-time against the RailHawks in regular season play.

Strikers midfielder Mark Anderson has scored three goals in his two games against Carolina this season, including two last Saturday at Lockhart Stadium. His seven goals in league play lead the Strikers.

In their most recent game, the RailHawks defeated the Atlanta Silverbacks by a final score was 2-1 with two goals by Nick Zimmerman for Carolina and Matt Horth scoring for Atlanta. The game featured two delays due to lightning in the first half, and was notable as the first game for new Silverbacks' head coach and former USMNT forward Eric Wynalda. The Strikers will face Wynalda and the Silverbacks at Lockhart Stadium on Friday, July 27.

The Strikers faced the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday, July 4, and fell on the road by a final of 3-1. Andy Herron was the goal-scorer for Fort Lauderdale. Three different players scored for the Rowdies, including Tsuyoshi Yoshitake, Mike Ambersley and Daniel Antoniuk.
